FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Below are some information-packed FAQs.

Any students entering grades 6-12 in southeast Wisconsin from the Kettle Moraine, Hartland Arrowhead and Oconomowoc school districts – as well as Lake Country Lutheran and surrounding private schools.
Practices start in early July with the season lasting until the end of October on Tuesday and Thursday evenings weather permitting. We frequently practice at John Muir Mountain Biking Trails, Emma Carlin Mountain Biking Trails and Minooka Park – but also hold some practices at Heritage Trails County Park, Lapham Peak State Park and CamRock County Park.

There are also a handful of non-mandatory Festival (Race) Weekends that happen at different venues around the state. See our schedule page for complete information.

Both options of Festival Passes include race registration but racing remains optional. Festival passes do not include team based fees or camping.

Yes. Local teams operate under the jurisdiction of NICA and WI League and get their insurance, etc., from being part of the state and national organization. Athletes on local teams must be fully current with all state and national league registrations (i.e. “Practice Ready” in the NICA PitZone) in order to participate.

Our experience is that students love being part of team LCC and the WI League on a variety of levels and we have a very low attrition rate. Student-athletes can select the way they wish to participate. Some are all about the competition and love racing. Others enjoy time maintaining trails and attending practice with friends. Everyone participates to their level of interest and ability.
We understand that each family has their own unique financial situation. We firmly believe in eliminating barriers to this amazing sport. Please contact one of our Team Directors to discuss this issue privately.
First and most important, a modern and safe mountain bike. Per NICA standards, student-athletes must ride using mountain bikes that have 26 to 29 inch wheels with tires not narrower than 1.75 inches.

In addition:
• Tires must have knobbies – no slick tires are permitted;
• No road bikes or mountain bikes equipped with drop bars;
• No cyclocross bikes or single-speed bikes.
• If a student-athlete is unable to ride a mountain bike with 26 to 29 inch wheels due to his or her height or other limitations, competing on a mountain bike with smaller wheels is permitted with League approval.

Bicycles must have fully operational front and rear brakes – disc brakes are preferred. Brakes must be adjusted to provide significant
stopping power. Brake pads must not be worn below recommended limits. It is recommended that bicycles be inspected by a mechanic
before every race.

Second, all associated gear needed. Check out our Gear Guide for a complete checklist.

There are tons of ways non-riding parents can support the team! Team photographer, food coordinator at races, Hype Humans (school posters, etc.), fundraising superheros… the list goes on!

Check out the official NICA complete list of riding and non-riding Team Volunteer Roles here.
